Colorful Iran: Rituals on martyrdom of Imam Ali (AS) in Semnan

People in Iran are mesmerized by the spirit of Ramadan every year. Different tribes and ethnic groups in the country have special rituals to celebrate the holy month of Ramadan.

People in different parts of Semnan province commemorate the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Ali (AS) on Ramadan 19. They wear black clothes and attend mourning ceremonies.

They believe that no one should do any job during this day and should mourn the occasion in mosques.

The stockmen donate milk of their herds to poor during the day.

Ramadan is a great event for Iranians since centuries ago and some customs are still alive in different parts of Iran to celebrate this month.
